Korea food gain popularity along with its music and drama. People began travelling to Korea and get to know their food. Bibimbap is one of Korea's many dishes that people are loving and can't get enough of. You can recreate this dish in your kitchen with the ingredient in your fridge. That is how easy this dish is!

 

Making Your Very Own Bibimbap At Home

 

The base ingredient of this cuisine is rice. Yet, the rest is really whatever you decide it may be. It can be turned into vegetarian bibimbap, you can have beef, or make it super spicy or keep it mild. There is no right and wrong way to make it. So, if you are a beginner chef with little experience, this recipe is surely for you. 

 

  • Serving: Bibimbap is best served in a bowl. It is on pot dish that usually serves as a single serving. 
  • Ingredient: It is a healthy and complete dish with vegetable, protein and abundance of spices. You can have cucumber, carrot, spinach, cabbage, mushroom as the vegetable, usually, it comes in several vegetable choices. The protein can be beef, chicken, pork, fish or even just egg. 
  • Spices: Now this is a very specific ingredient that you cant make Bibimbap without. Gochujang and sesame oil is a must. You can find it in the Asian supermarket near you. 


Step by Step On Making Your Very Own Bibimbap


Now, you got the basic knowledge of Bibimbap, its time to get cooking. The dish is super easy and you can adjust it to your taste. Here is the step by step cooking method on how to make your very own Bibimbap. 


 Ingredients

 

  •  1 Japanese cucumber, cut into thin strips 
  •  3 teaspoons salt 
  •  1 cup of spinach and bean sprout, you need to blanched and removed the excess    liquid 
  •  1 tablespoon sesame oil 
  •  1 1/4 teaspoons sesame seeds 
  •  2 cups of Sushi Rice or any rice
  •  1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil 
  •  2 carrots, peeled and cut into matchsticks 
  •  optional, choose any, 300g of minced beef, chicken, or fish
  •  4 eggs 

 

 

Cooking Method 

 

Step 1 

Put the strips cucumber and a teaspoon of salt in a bowl. Add cold water and set aside for      about 20 minutes. The cucumber needs to soften slightly. Rinse and drain it out.  

 

Step 2  

Mix spinach, 2 teaspoons of sesame oil, 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds and 1 teaspoon of remaining salt in a bowl. Put the bean sprouts and remaining sesame oil, sesame seeds and salt in a bowl. 

 

Step 3  

 Cook the rice and keep it warm. 

 

Step 4  

Heat half the vegetable oil in a frying pan with medium heat. Put the matchsticks carrot and stir it well for 2-3 minutes or until it gets tender. Transfer the cooked carrot to the bowl. 

 

Step 5

Add minced beef/chicken/fish to the pan. Cook and stir to mix all the ingredients for 10 minutes or until everything turn brown. 

 

Step 6

Transfer to a bowl and cover with foil to keep warm. Clean the pan clean with a paper towel for the next step.  

 

Step 7

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in the pan over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the pan and cook to your liking. It can be scrambled egg of sunny side up.  

 

Step 8  

Put the rice according to your serving bowls. Then, arrange all the vegetables around the bowl with the minced protein. Top it off with eggs. Serve with kimchi or chilli sauce to your liking.
