As you can tell. I am in love with easy recipes. I am also a big fan of versatile dishes that I can change the ingredients and adjust it to my liking. There are no specific allergies in my family, so we pretty much can eat anything (as long it is delicious of course).

Like the frittata. This egg dish originated from Italian, yet there are many different version of Frittata across the world. American may know it as omelettes, Korean called it Gyeran-Jim, and it also resembles the Japanese Okonomiyaki.

We can add just about anything to a Frittata. It's very versatile, just toast in anything and as long as it sticks, you are good.

Simple and Crunchy Frittata

Frittata is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even snack. You can use the last night leftovers and get creative with your frittata. Here is my personal favourite Italian Frittata recipe to pamper your palette. Follow the recipe below to get a fluffy-centred frittata each time you make it.

Important Things to Know About Frittata

People can have a different preference, but the right Frittata needs to be crispy in the outer layer and moist but cooked in the center. Most fail is because the middle area is not cooked and still wet and doughy. Here are some important things you need to keep in mind when making Italian Frittata.

1. Nail the ratio.

get the perfect ratios so your frittatas are cooked. Not too much water and not too much eggs or filling. For a nice ration, you need 2 cups or 8 eggs with 1/3 cup milk/cream and 3/4 cup cheese. For a larger batch just multiply all the ingredients. Whisk all in one bowl and season.

2. Cook the add-ins.

A frittata can have various additional ingredients such as mushroom, spinach, carrots, leeks, chicken, meat and so much more. Make sure to cook everything before putting it into the batter. The perfect additional is using leftovers because they are already cooked and seasoned.

3. Creative with filling.

The classic Italian Frittata is filled with leeks and potato. You can mix up different variation. Be creative and use other ingredients that your family love such as beef, bacon, sausage, paprika, tomatoes, broccoli, or whatever you have in the fridge. Your cheeses topping can also vary from Gruyère or Parmesan or other types of cheese that goes well with frittatas.

4. Cast-iron is king.

The secret to a well done crispy edge is hot cast iron. You can't go wrong with this reliable kitchenware. Sure, it is heavy and can be difficult to clean yet it is you need to achieve the perfect Frittata. Just toast your eggs, put all the additional items and transfer to the oven.

5. Get cheesy.

You don't need cheese for Frittatas, but why not? I love an abundance of cheese with just about anything. It gives an extra flavour and kicks to our Frittata base. Put as much as you wanted, the more the cheesier.

Here is the step by step cooking guide for 6 serving Italian Frittata. It will take about 15 minutes to cook which is a quite easy and fast dish to make. Your preparation for cleaning will take about a total of 35 minutes. Not that long right?

Ingredients

  • 8. large eggs
  • heavy cream
  • shredded mozzarella
  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • pinch red pepper flakes
  • extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • baby Bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup of ricotta
  • 2 - 3 cup of baby spinach

Frittatas are delicious and simple. Here’s how to do it at home

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. If you don't have an oven, it is ok. I like to make sure everything cooked evenly over the oven.

Step 2

Make your Italian Frittata recipe by whisking together the frittata base. That will be eggs, heavy cream or almond milk (or any milk), garlic, a pinch of salt, and pepper.

Step 3

Then, heat vegetable oil in a large skillet in medium heat. Sauté the additional vegetables such as spinach, leeks, carrots, mushroom or potatoes until tender. Each veggie has different cooking time, so make sure to notice that. Don't forget to season with salt and pepper.

Step 4

After the vegetables are ready, add the eggs and pour the frittata base. Make sure to shake the pan well to distribute all the ingredients.

Step 5

Sprinkle the frittata with cheese and ricotta before transferring it to the oven.

Step 6

Keep our healthy Frittata Recipe in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes. You want the eggs to set and the upper layer appears to be golden around the edges.

Step 7

Take out your Frittata and let it cool slightly before slicing.

There are many variations to the Italian Frittatas recipe. My absolute recommendation is these five variations that are just amazing. Keep your vegetable combination two to three items.

  1. Broccoli & Feta
  2. Roasted Red Pepper with Spinach (my top favourite)
  3. Spring Vegetables and Asparagus
  4. Mixed Mushroom & Tarragon
  5. Caprese, Cherry Tomatoes and Basil

So, that is our Italian Frittata recipe. You can mix them up and use your combination. Would love to hear your favourite Fittatas recipes, share below for your vegetable recommendation or cheese topping.
